Hi friends,
how are you?
As you all know, we lost a basketball legend last Sunday. Kobe Bryant entered the NBA right out of High School and stayed with his league, the LA Lakers, for his entire career. Tragedy took him, his daughter and seven other people. Gone. Just like that.
No warning. No preparing. Just gone.
The same day, my family celebrated one of my daughters' 20 th Birthday.
Isn't that life? Contrasts like this?
Life and death. Joy and sorrow. Dancing and weeping.
A wise man said it this way:
"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.
a time to be born and a time to die
a time to plant and a time to uproot
a time to kill and a time to heal
a time to tear down and a time to build
a time to weep and a time to laugh
a time to mourn and a time to dance
and many more. You can find the whole list in the book of Ecclesiastes in the old testament.
Sometimes death leads to new growth. As in a seed that is planted deep into the earth. It takes time to break through the soil and grow a tender shoot. Even more time to grow from that tender shoot into a fruit bearing plant or tree.
We can't see that far ahead when we are in the middle of mourning. Neither can we see sad times ahead, when we're in the middle of celebrating.
So what's my point?
What if we can accept both? Because that is an option. We can't have 100% good in life. Neither do we all have 100% bad in our life.
I am reminded of an old German song. It was so simple, and I will give you the gist of it. A wise man was asked how to live life. What is his secret?
He responded with:" When I walk, I walk. When I run, I run. When I sit, I sit." and so on.
Simple truth , isn't it? All the self help Gurus tell us the same thing, right? Just in different words.
"Be present." "Live in the moment." "Breathe."
What does that look like in your life?
Are you happy with where you are presently?
Are you happy with who you are?
Are you enjoying your loved ones while you have them?
Are you happy with what you are doing?
Are you happy with how you are doing it?
I know as moms, we can often rush through the days in order to get everything done. What if we slowed down a bit, and sat while we were sitting? Walked while we were walking? Ran while we were running?
Everything has it's season.
Just today, I talked with my oldest who is getting ready to move out of state in a few months. With the love of his life. To live his life to the fullest. And that is why I made sure we celebrated his birthday together. All of us. Cause it won't be that easy next year. I savored that day.
How about you? What ever action you are inspired to do now, go do it. Be inspired and inspire someone else.
