Hi Friends, What did you implement last week? There's a scene in the movie Runaway Bride, where Maggie (Julia Roberts) is challenged in a conversation that goes like this…”You don't even know how you like your eggs!” She knew how her partners liked their eggs cooked but she didn't know for herself. Can you relate? We know other people's wants and needs, but not our own because that's what we have been taught. And there's nothing wrong with serving others. Please don't hear me say that. What is wrong is when we forget about ourselves and we get lost in other people's lives. Recently I was taking a walk at the beach with a divorcee and she said in a reminiscent way, "I would like to run and chase away these sea gulls." So I said, “Let's do it." And I started running. She joined me. Silly? Childish? That's up to you. I believe it was a healing moment for her. Allowing herself to be playful and childlike. Enjoying the moment, and doing what she wanted. We are acting like chameleons in so many ways.
in our words
in our behavior
in our dress
in our possessions
in our choice of friends
in our parenting
in our jobs
There are a million more examples. But just like the chameleon, we change our true colors to blend in with the background.
