Hi Friends, What did you implement last week? In honor of women's month, I'd like to talk about women in midlife. Our kids are growing up and we are wondering who we really are and what our new role is. If you are reading this and you are not in midlife, stay tuned. I have clients in their 30's and 70's. It doesn't matter. Often, you have to reinvent yourself before or after midlife. You might have been through a loss, a divorce, a move or some other huge change in your life. You are looking for a new identity. It's not a crisis. It's a new emerging. A new growing into; a becoming. Ask yourself: Who are you now? Who do you want to become?
The following points were inspired by Jen Riday. How to EMBODY Your New Identity: Identity is the person you ARE and represents your beliefs, thoughts, feelings, energy, values and priorities (all of which can be changed). You can EMBODY your desired new identity by:
Repeat affirmations (positive "I am" statements) out loud.
Visualize the person you'd like to become as if she is already here and already experiencing the life you've always wanted.
Practice FEELING the energy your best self would have.
Practice BEING in the physiology of your best self. If she is confident and successful, put your shoulders back and stand up straight.
Embody her strength and ENERGY. If she is loving, positive and compassionate, practice FEELING gratitude, love and compassion.
Constantly challenge any thoughts of "I can't" or "I don't" by asking yourself, "Is that really true?"
List the values and priorities you need to adopt in order to be your best self. Turn them into affirmations and repeat them out loud. For example, "I am healthy and fit. I am loving and compassionate."
Follow your instinct. EMBODY HER. BE HER.
