how are you?
as promised I will explain a little more about the difference of complaining and venting .
Complaining is what we do wen we feel a variety of feelings .
Like :
overlooked
upset
irritated
not important
dealt with unfairly ...
Aren't we attracted to others who want to complain about the same thing? As in "misery likes company".
Of course we are. I just want us to be aware of it. Nothing wrong with it. We are human.
Just also notice that we can become addicted to feelings. We all know someone who always complains about the same thing, right?
Or someone who needs an adrenaline high. Or drama. You get the idea.
What can we do when we are with somebody who is always complaining?
We can say:
"How can I support you?"
"What do you need from me?"
And when necessary: "Stop."
What's the difference with venting?
When we vent we actually are looking for a solution. And we don't rehash the same thing.
I encourage you to have a designated friend to vent with. It should not be the one you are upset with of course. Ask your friend if that would be ok. Have a designated time or time limit.
